DISULFIRAM
Synonyms & Trade Names
Antabuse®, bis(Diethylthiocarbamoyl) disulfide, Ro-Sulfiram®, TETD, Tetraethylthiuram disulfide
Adverse health effects occur in humans consuming alcohol and simultaneously exposed to disulfiram. This represents a significant concern since disulfiram, under the trade name Antabuse, is used as a medication in the treatment of chronic alcoholism. For individuals who drink alcohol and are exposed to disulfiram, the symptoms of exposure are facial vasodilation, tachycardia, tachypnea, nausea, vomiting, pallor, and hypotension. High doses of disulfiram can induce convulsions, cardiac arrhythmias, and myocardial infarction, and the compound has also been associated with polyneuropathy, peripheral neuritis, and skin eruptions (Compendium of Pharmaceuticals and Specialties 1968, as cited in ACGIH 1986/Ex. 1-3, p. 225).
Symptoms: irritation eyes, skin, respiratory system; sensitization dermatitis; lassitude (weakness, exhaustion), tremor, restlessness, headache, dizziness; metallic taste; peripheral neuropathy; liver damage

ETHYLENE/ ACRYLIC ACID COPOLYMER
ETHYLENE DIBROMIDE
Human data: It has been stated that a concentration of 50 ppm (for an unstated time period) could be dangerous to exposed humans [Kochmann 1928]. Exposures above 100 ppm for an hour or less or by longer exposures at lower concentrations (e.g., 75 ppm) have resulted in gastrointestinal discomfort, vomiting, and respiratory involvement [Ott et al. 1980].
Basis for revised IDLH: The revised IDLH for ethylene dibromide is 100 ppm based on acute inhalation toxicity data in humans [Ott et al. 1980] and animals [Rowe et al. 1952]. [Note: NIOSH recommends as part of its carcinogen policy that the "most protective" respirators be worn for ethylene dibromide at concentrations above 0.045 ppm.]

METHANE
Methane (CH4), is an odorless gas that is flammable or explosive at concentrations of 5% to 15% by volume of air [NIOSH 1985b]. At high concentrations, methane can displace enough oxygen to cause death by suffocation. Because this gas is lighter than air, it occurs near the top of the pit. Methane should be expected to be present in manure pits.
METHANOL
Synonym(s): Methyl alcohol, Carbinol, Wood alcohol
METHENAMINE
METHYLENE CHLORIDE
Synonym(s): Paint stripper; dichloromethane
Breathing in large amounts of methylene chloride can damage the central nervous system. Contact of eyes or skin with methylene chloride can result in burns. Methylene chloride has been found in at least 882 of 1,569 National Priorities List sites identified by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Methylene chloride is used as an industrial solvent and as a paint stripper. It may also be found in some aerosol and pesticide products and is used in the manufacture of photographic film.
Symptoms: If you breathe in large amounts of methylene chloride you may feel unsteady, dizzy, and have nausea and a tingling or numbness of your finger and toes. A person breathing smaller amounts of methylene chloride may become less attentive and less accurate in tasks requiring hand-eye coordination. Skin contact with methylene chloride causes burning and redness of the skin.
Carcinogen: The World Health Organization (WHO) has determined that methylene chloride may cause cancer in humans. The Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) has determined that methylene chloride can be reasonably anticipated to be a cancer-causing chemical. The EPA has determined that methylene chloride is a probable cancer-causing agent in humans.

Inhalation of vapors may induce headache, nausea, fatigue, dizziness, cyanosis, weakness in the arms and legs, and in rare cases may be fatal. The oil is readily absorbed through the skin and may increase heart rate, cause convulsions or rarely death. Ingestion may similarly cause headaches, dizziness, nausea, vomiting and gastrointestinal irritation, loss of sensation/use in limbs and also causes internal bleeding.

Toxic compound which can promote cancer.
Increasingly detected in human blood plasma, urine and breast milk, this chemical can impede muscle strength, hinder the heart's ability to circulate the blood and even stop the heart altogether. Although triclosan is not regulated as a drug, this compound acts like a potent cardiac depressant.
Triclosan potently impairs muscle functions by interfering with signalling between two proteins that are of fundamental importance to life.
